That split second causes the defender to hesitate


and not pick up a 15 yard penalty. All momentum stops and advantage now goes to the runner (QB). This is akin to runner sprinting down the sideline and feinting tat he's stepping out of bounds to get a defender to let up and then sprints past them. Too many "rules" to protect the runners and not enough leeway for ref's to use judgement. Answer is not to add more rules but give guidelines to ref's to use better judgement in calling the foul. Let the defensive players play football. If that extra yardage is worth the pain.... let the runner earn it.
