Which may come as a surprise to Pride_and_Joy :-)

My own experience with FIRE--also as a university professor--is that they are not as completely unbiased as they maintain. They do seem to try. Of course it's not their fault what administrators do with FIRE evaluations either.

The rest is gospel. When I was an undergrad, admin (except for presidents) was made up of lifers who came to the institution as assistant professors and transitioned into administration. They seemed to love the institution and the students. At least my interactions with them were positive.

Today all that is changed. Administrators are careerists who go from job to job and school to school in search of the next rung up the ladder to a presidency. Most don't give a flip about students, faculty, or the school as a whole. Their main concerns are doing things that will impress presidents, provosts and the super-wealthy businessmen who control boards of trustees (usually accomplished with unpaid faculty labor while simultaneously attacking the faculty) and avoiding anything that will reflect negatively to those same groups. They see students and faculty as the enemy.

What I suspect we have here, at least in part, is someone concerned about her c.v. for when that AD job somewhere comes along.
