...it just has mutations to it. The vaccines still work to help reduce/prevent severe illness because they still help fight the virus. But in the end, this is what we want the virus to do for the most part, mutate to where it is less dangerous, but possibly more contagious (like say other coronaviruses that cause the common cold).

That said, proof of vaccination for events is just optics at this point.
