There is a very simple counterargument


It's not the Hall of Statistics and Numbers
It's not the Hall of Super Bowl Rings
It's not the Hall of Touchdown-to-Interception Ratios, or PFF Grades

It's the Hall of Fame

Joe Namath is absolutely famous in the sport of Football, for (generally speaking) good reasons. And there is no way you can tell the story of the sport without him.

Heck, Michael Vick belongs in the HoF for the same reasons. But he'll never get in because he went to federal prison, not because he wasn't famous enough.
