I completely disagree with that

just like people who make purchase decisions based purely on the payment, a huge percentage of people have no idea that these things are being paid for by the government and that money comes from people that pay taxes (or worse, debt that has to be paid back sometime).

It is free to them. Assuming that people that make life choices that end with them not making enough money to pay income taxes have deep economic thoughts and analysis is just funny.
