Exactly!
The ACC is a VERY strong conference this year... at the top. The bottom (Pitt, BC, UNC, and Syracuse) are really pretty bad, and don't travel well (fans). Sure, you could include them and take on the work to address squeezing in a few more games, but really, for what gain? Just to say that everybody had a shot? You had a full season to prove that you deserved a shot.
If adding more games was on the table, I would MUCH rather see the ACC focus on getting to a double-elimination format than on adding our weakest teams.
The SEC is pretty decent top-to-bottom, so I really do think that's a different case.
