Local TV market isn't a big deal for "state" universities...

You always see the closest TV market given to the university in college football TV market comparison articles. Examples: Texas does very well in other Texas TV markets besides Austin. They always give Tech the small Roanoke TV market but in reality, Tech football dominates most of the state's TV markets except for Charlottesville.

Urban and private universities are more tied down to their local TV markets since they don't have strong statewide viewer support. Pitt, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Wake Forest ... are just a few examples.
