Had this happen in the spring, and here's what I did.


Sounds goofy, but it worked. I took a sheet of aluminum foil and hung it out the nearest window, closing the window pane to hold it in place. The gentle breeze blows the foil, making a little noise and a lot of reflective light. This scares away the woodpeckers.

I didn't invent this idea, but read it about it and it worked like a charm. After a week I took the foil down and the woodpecker hasn't been back.
