If it is about money, and it were me, and I annnounced

I was going somewhere else and then the boss offered me more money, I would wonder why you hadn't already given me the money you obviously thought I was worth when you countered the other offer. And if I am worth that when I received another offer, why wasn't I worth that yesterday before I received another offer. And if I stay will I always have to threaten another job to get a raise. And then I would think I was insulted because you were trying to keep me on the cheap and I would leave for the other job. But that is just me. So I think you look bad by countering, you know I was worth more but you would not give it to me.
