Perhaps hiring a top recruiting assistant is the answer
Thomas is really a baseball guy and the in game decisions for softball are different. Small ball, changing pitchers with different styles, etc are things top softball coaches excel in and Thomas thinks more like the baseball coach and it is different. So you need to have better talent to offset this theory.
Recruiting hasn't really been stellar for VT either. Tincher, the top pitcher noted, was offered only a partial scholarship her freshman year. She basically recruited VT more than the Hokies attracting her.
So why not look to hire a young upcoming coach as an assistant who has a good reputation in the travel ball circles and have him/her be the top recruiter. I am not suggesting we replace Angela Tincher as the pitching coach. I am assuming we are allowed to have more than one assistant coach but I am not current with the NCAA regulations.
Beyond that Scott Thomas has grown our program from day one and deserves all the accolades and respect one can give. The players seem to love playing for him and the team stays out of trouble and maintains a high academic record. These attributes are very important and need to be kept in mind in addition to our win and loss record.
