Tore my ACL playing soccer as a sophomore in HS, ended my career

Due to the fact that I transferred into my final HS as a sophomore, was still rehabbing as a junior when tryouts occurred.

Basically, you move on. In college I switched to karate and did fine. Later, after law school, I got into rock climbing, cycling, and kayaking. Knee has been fine for 25 years.

She's simply going to have to find something else. Try rock climbing for the social aspect (laid back, very inclusive) and low impact on knees. Good luck.
