Homeschooling Cooperative...
It's a cooperative that uses the classical education model for student learning. Homeschoolers meet once a week to work on several subjects. Early years work on memorizing a foundation of facts and equivalents, as well as developing basic learning skills. As they progress, more challenging subjects are added and expanded.
So, it's a supplement to our homeschool curriculum that gives them a "school-like" experience and doesn't rely on SOL's to determine achievement.
We went to homeschooling because the public school was just not serving our children. The teachers time was mostly occupied with concentrating on the SOL's and managing discipline in the school room. Our daughter was getting "lost in the middle." What sealed it for me was when the teacher could not get her name correct 5 times in a row at our parent teacher conference. She was basically invisible to her, therefore not getting the attention she needed.
BTW, all of my kids test at or beyond their grade level. One tests a complete grade ahead and has started calculus before the 7th grade. The older ones will start community college classes in a year or so as part of their curriculum.
