Softball
Just wanted to add some thoughts on the softball program and the coaching. Coach Thomas and his group just missed the NCAA tourney last year with a team that had just one pitcher, and the youngest lineup in the ACC. They faced one of the toughest schedules in the country.
This year, the team has lost its two best returning pitchers, and is now completely relying on two freshmen, one of which (Taylor Barnes) was not even recruited to pitch. Nobody expected this scenario to unfold. How good would any team be if they lost their two best pitchers for the season?
The recruiting class coming in next season is the among the best in the history of the program. I expect the team to make great strides next year with improved depth in pitching, and more speed in the field and on the bases. We need to continue to recruit well, and somehow cut down on the arm injuries. Coach Thomas built this program from the ground up, and one bad season does not make a career. If we're having the same records next year and the next year, then let the conversation begin. Right now, just support the Lady Hokies!
