Tips for renting a mini-van


So we're getting close to being in the market for a new (to us) vehicle. The other half wants a Pilot or a Suburban. I'd like to save about $20-50k and buy a minivan until the need arises for something that can haul a travel trailer.

So basically I wanted to rent a mini-van and take it to the beach with us this year. That way we could more effectively haul our crap than in the mid-size SUV we currently own and I can get her to see the benefits of the mom-wagon. Only problem is there isn't really a good place to rent one in the Lynchburg area that is reasonably priced. I'm a cheapskate and while I know that $50/ day may not be that bad, I'm not really interested in spending more on the rental than I am going to spend on the accommodations at the beach.

Anyone have any tips? Tell the dealer I'd like an extended test drive???
