Well, let me modify that as a week of hot, dry weather...

so that your wood is pretty dry and is able to soak it in. Maybe the day you do it don't let it get too hot. I guess that makes sense and knowing me I probably worked in the shade (deck gets conveniently shaded in the afternoon/evening) Don't do it a day or two after rain.
