You can buy used/refurb stuff with good guts pretty cheaply

I don't have a lot of expectation for my personal laptop so I just buy used. Last one I got was a Lenovo with Windows 10, 128 SSD, 3.2 gb RAM with optical drive for $150, delivered the next day, from eBay. The case was immaculate, no wear on the keys, basically no signs it had ever been used.

Great little travel companion.
