Cord cutting question updated version

So I know I'll get the usual "try the search function" responses but those only go back so far. And I'd like to know as of today what everyone's thoughts are on the various other ways to get TV. Our cable company is going up and honestly we think we're selling our house so not wanting to get into a contract again. Our basic needs are local stations, football (just through bowl season), and kid's shows (Nick Jr, Sprout, etc.).
What does everyone use and how do you like it? Anything you're missing you wish you had or something you have you don't need but are paying for anyway? What is the best way to go about acquiring the equipment?
Thanks in advance
