It's the only road they would encounter on their way south...

We would be radioed here they come, at example MM 20, then as we approached that area we would slow down.

As long as they were parallel to the road (at least 300') we were good to proceed. As soon as they turned towards the road we would have to stop and wait for all to cross and be at least 300' away.

We didn't necessarily have to wait for the trailing wolves who would go after the stragglers.
