Engine lost after month, main mast between 1 and 2 months


Distress signals sent out daily after they lost hope with the navigation crippled. Trip expected to take 1 month.
They could've reasoned they were close to their destination before increasing the frequency. Supplies seem excessive for the trip. Were they expecting to sail back to Hawaii? It's plausible.
