That's interesting: my son did the same visits this weekend. My wife got


stuck with JMU; I did the VT visit.

Her impression of JMU was not as favorable as yours. First, she couldn't believe they scheduled an admissions event on a home football game weekend. (I guess that's the difference between FBS and FCS football.) She also felt that it feels more spread out than it otherwise would be because of I-81 running through it.

VT was a bit harder to evaluate for me. (I've done the college-level spiel, so I've seen the other side of things.) The students who talk are very frank--if you know what to listen for. I was somewhat surprised that he asked to attend the corps info session. When I asked what he got from it, he gave me a one-word answer of "structure". I see him as someone who needs/thrives on structure, so I was glad to hear him say it.

He's now been to 8 places and I feel like we are no closer than when we started. At least he's "only" a junior.
