Certainly true. Even assuming no extraordinary measures are taken


If you require assistance at some point in life and your family is not willing to bring you into their home where you can live out the late autumn and winter of your life, you have no choice but some form of assisted living or graduated care.

I've been to a couple of facilities that I would consider to be bare minimum of comfort and frill and those places *start* at $65,000 a year in 2017 money. If you only require that level of care for 5 years you will eat through the final third of your savings assuming no other expenses.

And some of us will be lucky and not require that. The end of my life is not something I will give up to luck. If I can act now and be fully prepared, at at the worst leave an inheritance, I have to do that IMO.
