Can't speak to lions and rhinos, but elephants are pretty close to vermin


in Africa.

Had a coworker who lived in South Africa for several years. He mentioned the elephants are awesome the first few times you see them, but then you realize the locals are right and they are a menace.

There really is no way to keep an elephant out of your town (or even your house) if it decides it wants to go in. They trample fences, knock down trees, push over walls. An elephant can destroy anything short of a military fortification whenever it wants to.

The ones out in the middle of nowhere are not really a problem. But the ones who live on the outskirts of civilization are a problem. Thinning the population near the cities and towns is probably a good thing.
