I've had hit or miss luck with locals. My last set of tires, local guy

was more than happy to order them for me, but their price was about $30 more per tire than TireRack.

But several years ago. my mechanic got me the same tires for about $8 more per tire...and ended up being cheaper after adding in shipping.

Definitely worth checking with a local shop. Sometimes they can get bulk pricing and bundle orders to save on shipping. Sometimes they can't.
