Well, they wouldn't see you the warranty if they weren't coming out ahead,


which means the average purchaser comes out behind. The advantage to you is that the warranty is a known, fixed cost that can be planned for, whereas the potential big ticket car repair can be unplanned. But if you skip the extended warranty on the car, refrigerator, TV and all your other appliances, I think you'll come out ahead in the long run. Maybe one thing will need a repair, but not everything.
