So when the person in from of me hits their brakes and causes me to

(hopefully) tap my breaks, it won't cause a chain of people doing that? And that won't make things worse?
I am not saying the zipper doesn't work or isn't correct. But it only works if everyone is on board. Just like the entrance ramp....we all know that you should use it to accelerate and merge....but if one person decides to stop on an on ramp, it doesn't matter what the "correct" method is....it won't work.
Its irritation when I'm about 5 cars back and see someone speed up to get to,the front...stop at the choke point and wait for some idiot to let them over. This causes all of us to either wait longer or slow down just as we start moving.
