I "think" prior to a commercial the 11 on the field go towards the sideline

and coaches and additional players go onto the field to meet said players on the field.

Isn't that how it works or am I misunderstanding the situation? I just think it's a natural meeting place, almost halfway to go over strategy during a time out with the appropriate players, coaches, and other potential substitute players.
