Sometimes you just know what you're going to do, and nothing will stand...

...in the way of you reaching your goal. That's the way I felt entering AOCS.

I had a couple of professors at VT who were former Naval Aviators. Used to go drink beer after class with one, and he would tell me a few sea stories about his time flying with the Navy. I was hooked! I was also going to become a Naval Aviator!

I met a Navy officer recruiter my senior year at VT, and he started the ball rolling. I finally got the word I was accepted the day I drove home from VT. I walked into my house, and my mom said my recruiter had called, and wanted me to call him back. He left his home number. I was two sheets to the wind when I received the news. He couldn't understand why I wasn't expressing any more excitement with the news...lol My dad and I drove to Richmond for me to swear in the following week. Now all I needed was a class date...

I had never stepped foot on an airplane, much less taken any flight instruction. I hadn't even hung out at any airports. I just knew that was what I was going to do.

I received a motivation boost the day they shaved our heads in AOCS (day 2 or 3). One look in the mirror at my bald head, and there was no way I was going to quit until it grew back. They were going to have to throw me out if they wanted to get rid of me...lol On a side note, there was one guy who stood in line at the barber shop, watched his classmates getting their head shaved, then watched as the barber shaved his head. He promptly stood up and DORed (Drop on Request). We couldn't believe it. If you were going to quit, do it before they shaved your head...lol

Graduated AOCS, and promptly headed to VT-3 at Whiting Field (next county over) for flight training with my one airline flight under my belt...lol The rest is history.
