If safety/emergencies were the driving concern attendants would all be men

I've flown enough to observe that 90% of US flight attendants would be more than useless in an actual emergency...most struggle to deal with the boarding door during regular operation and couldn't handle an unruly passenger to save their lives. Did you know that China airlines puts their attendants through an extremely harsh training regime taught by military instructors dealing with self-defense and emergency operations? They have a very high washout rate and only take the best of the best, yet they still manage to staff their planes with gorgeous women.
