People who change Happy to Glad and my disdain for them. Yep, another rant!

Over my career I've always had to write thousands of documents. Whether they be commendations and awards, technical documents, technical articles, or the boatloads of informational emails, instructions, guides, etc I've written in my current position for the past 15 years, I've had to write a ton.

The audiences have been as little as one four star General or as many as >50k employee firms. What NEVER changes is my disdain for someone who tries to justify their existence by editing things that don't need to be edited. I'm talking about the happy to glad changes. I write "I'm so happy to have him on my team" on an informal note or recommendation and they change it to "I'm so GLAD to have him..."

I recently sent over a 960 word document, which is basically an interactive FAQ for new employees, to someone for their review. Funny thing is I didn't ask them to mark it up or review for grammar, etc... just content. Make sure what I'm saying is accurate. I received it back this morning with 206 changes. A lot were removing heading capatalizations, which is a UK thing, and that's fine, But there were FAR too many happy to glads. Things like:

"no further action is required on your part" was changed to "you don't need to do anything."

"If Direct Access isn't working but you still need full network access, SSL VPN is an alternative option we provide" was changed to read "If direct access isn't working and you need full network access, we provide SSL VPN as an alternative option."

"It's intuitive and utilizes a familiar 'email-type interface" was changed to "It utilizes a very familiar email-type interface and is intuitive."

"To keep our data as secure as possible, we require an additional security step when you're away from the office" was changed to "When you're away from the office, we require you to go through an additional security step to keep company data as secure as possible."

There are at least five more changes of the same ilk.

What's worse is that there were some edits that completely changed the context of the sentence and made the statement patently wrong!

/end rant.

Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong. I'm married, I'm used to it.
