It's really hard for any great show to stay great beyond a few seasons.

Game of Thrones has done it pretty well although the cracks are showing with the shortened seasons. Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights are two that I think managed to be interesting and good until the end. But most shows get really popular and get extended for 6,7,8+ seasons and there's just not enough to keep it fresh.
