I'm thinking tolerances have improved tremendously...


like Edge mentions below the oil has improved tremendously also in the last 10-20 years. The oils are lighter these days, 5-20 type stuff instead of 10w30 etc. Probably a few chemicals in there too which coat the cylinders.

I know the instruction manuals going back a few years already tell you to start driving in 30 seconds instead of warming up the car. ie, get it up to operation as quickly as possible.
