The universe created by the first films was groundbreaking enough to keep

people paying. The Last Jedi didn’t do as well as it should have and still banked 1.3 billion worldwide. That’s the strength of the brand which Lucas established with the first three. Until one of these movies comes out and either offends a large segment of the population or royally stinks, like no redeeming qualities whatsoever, people will still throw their money at it. For the record, I liked a lot of The Last Jedi and am reserving final judgement until I see how it’s all wrapped up with Ep. IX.
