Curious, because I think it is the exact opposite

The SW universe is incredibly interesting if they would just stop trying to focus exclusively on Luke, Lea, Han, and Annikan/Vader.

As I alluded to above, check out Star Wars Rebels. That is the one thing post-Empire that was done really, really well. And for the most part, it stayed as far away from the established characters as possible.
