Justify Jumps the Track @bourbonstreet
At the foggy, rainy, messy Preakness on Saturday, Justify pulled off the victory despite overcoming a loss of forward momentum twice, making his win something much more impressive than I initially thought.
Sometimes when racing, a horse may encounter a shadow on the track and try to jump it, much like a horse would jump a fence on a fox hunt. Horses that do this, momentarily lose all power and have to ramp back up. Horses that do this generally lose. Justify encountered two "jumps" in his race and overcame them. Instead of a shadow, the obstacle was the pathway across the track to the rocking mud-fest in the infield in front of the grandstand and another track on the backstretch.
Watch the replay at about 33 second mark.
