That was a tragic race...


Mr. Nickerson collapsed and died of a heart attack on the backstretch and took another horse down with him. I don’t believe the other horse died. Later in the evening in the Distaff, champion filly Go For Wand shattered her forelock in front of the grandstand as she was defending the lead in the last 100 yards.
