I wouldn't be too sure a 16-member conference would always

opt for using rotating pods. I know it is a popular model around here, but there are still enough people around who remember the WAC's failed attempt with it during the 1990s. If the Big Ten does expand to 16 members, then don't be surprised if the divisions are permanent. Now I could see the Pac 16 using pods just as equally as the Pac 8-Exapnsion 8 model because 12 of the 16 schools will want to make sure they have equal access to CA recruits.

If the SEC expands to 16, then I don't see the SEC using the rotating pods model. Most of the schools have built more than 2 division rivalries that would be impacted by implementing the rotating pods model. For example Tenn has a rivalry with Alabama, Vandy, Kentucky, and Florida. Likewise, UGA has a rivalry with Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina. LSU has a rivalry with Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, and a budding one with TAMU. I don't believe there is a way the rotating pods would allow Tenn, UGA, and LSU to continue playing their rivals annually as conference games. Whereas they could with the current permanent model and playing 9 conference games (1 protected and 1 rotating cross-division game).
