Thanks for all the advice - funny and serious. Couple of things -
How much would making this kind of UM claim impact his insurance? It's not like he was at fault, but it is a claim. He's 25 and never had an accident nor traffic infraction. He's nervous about having something on his record. Another strange thing about this: he was slowing down because someone was making a left turn in a 55 mph zone and the truck behind him slowed but the car behind that truck didn't and rear-ended the truck hard and the truck went forward and did the damage to my son's car. My son said the state trooper said the car would be cited as being at fault. I always learned that the "hitter" was always at fault. The car was the UM. Why wouldn't the truck be cited too since they hit my son's car?
