I think the big question for me is the indirect market research. i.e. My Sister-in-law and husband fit the Nike Demo market. However, they are influenced by people like my father-in-law who is staunch republican/military. Will his influence negatively affect the target demo family in this example?
I am not sure frankly ... but will be fun to see how it shakes out. Either way, they will teach this example in MBA schools in 20 years IMO. Either a brilliant strategy or a colossal unforced error to their brand.
