Played in a rec league where there were some similar blatant fouls.

And by similar, I mean a guy shooting from the same position as that Nichols College player, and the defender arriving way late and shoving the shooter. The shooter was a former D-1 player (walk-on) and was an outstanding shooter, lighting every other team up. This one team just adapted the tactic of knocking the guy down after every shot to intimidate him, and accepting the foul. (It didn't work.) I never saw elbows like in the recent college game - that seems like an assault case. But they were definitely hard, purposeful, unsportsmanlike, intentional fouls that would be assault if it happened to someone out on the street. I think that team got a serious talking too from the league, but nothing legal.
