They didn't offer them $3B subsidy, it was a tax break. Meaning


it is $3B that NY didn't have UNLESS Amazon moved there. It was a $325M subsidy.

NY gave up over $20B in future tax revenue for a $325M subsidy. They gave up all of the secondary jobs and secondary tax revenue (tech companies, restaurants, transit, home values, etc.) that would have been created by taking the deal.

It is silly to say that NY didn't give them $3B that they don't have unless Amazon came in the first night place. You can't invest $3B in revenue that you "saved" when it is revenue you never collected. NY screwed the pooch on this one. If government thinks other "Tech Companies" will jump to take Amazon's place, they clearly doesn't understand business. NY hurt themselves in a big, big way IMO. I hope it is a lesson to future idiots.
