Lounge parents of teenagers, need your opinions...

Teenage daughter (under 18, so keep your shuns to yourself) was accepted into a 2-week intensive dance program in New York City this summer. It’s housed at a university where she will have constant supervision by adults while she is there, there is no time where she will be able to go out without a chaperone. She will have to take the subway to the dance studio each day and back to the dormitories. They will also be attending a number of Broadway musicals and have the opportunity to guest perform in one. The dorms are apartment style and she will have several roommates for the duration. They will have to prepare their lunch each day to take to class with them, keep the apartment clean and have regular bed checks at night. The dorms are controlled access in and out.

While my daughters passion is dancing, I don’t see her making a career in dancing, however this could be something that sparks the right avenue for her and “get’s her noticed” outside of the area.

Needless to say, we have a number of concerns dropping our baby off in the mouth of the lion, as it were. My daughter has a very good head on her shoulders, but tends to be a bit of a wall flower. Needless to say, there are numerous concerns having our daughter without her family in one of the worlds largest cities “by herself”. I can see pros and cons on both, but the SO and I are really having a hard time getting over the safety concerns, unfounded or not.

So, I put it to the Lounge…Would you drop your daughter off in the middle of NYC for 2 weeks? What concerns would you have and what precautions or stipulations would you put on such an experience. Assume costs are not an issue here.
