Massachusetts Mutual is an excellent company

Many of their whole life policies pay significant dividends (it is a mutual company). I had a small "progressive protection" policy that my Dad took out when I was one yr. old. The dividends on this policy probably paid 2/3 of the premiums. Since I'm 65, it's now "paid up" insurance and re-invested dividends have rise the death benefit from $5K to over $15K over the years. Even though I don't pay any more premiums, I still get dividends of several hundred $ per year.

This particular type of policy is no longer available, but Mass Mutual still has an excellent reputation and pays dividends on whole life policies.
