I had a constant headache for the month prior to the stroke and the doctors thought it was muscular, so they had me on a muscle relaxant. I probably went to the doctor about two weeks into the headache. I figured out pretty quickly that it wasn’t muscular because the relaxant did nothing.

In the last two weeks prior to the stroke, things started getting worse and normal head/neck movements like looking behind you while backing your car would cause me to start to lose consciousness. I also had one episode where I woke up on the ground after passing out while turning my head sideways to take a photo. In hindsight, that month was really a clot building up, occluding blood flow and migrating to my brain.

By the time they got in post-stroke to do the angiogram, there was nothing to find. It will always be a mystery at this point, but I think there is a strong chance that it was a vertebral artery dissection that occurred while on a hike with my young kids. The youngest one pooped out pretty early on and I carried her straddling my shoulders for several miles. The whole series of events started shortly afterwards. If it wasn’t that... well, I got nothing.
