Yeah, you store the hash code then hash the password being sent...


and see if they match. That's ... pretty old. Even at home I use10-15 character passwords w/lower/upper/numbers/special characters. and a lot of banks and stuff do one time passcodes type stuff to stop replay.

Keep your system patched and use strong passwords. Even virus protection isn't that necessary if you're careful but go ahead and use it anyway. (the microsoft stuff does fine for "free")
