Doing research on the current politics stumbled on the Chelyabinsk meteor and the impact it had. Having read Hawking's last book he proposed a large asteroid hitting earth as the most likely disruptive event for humanity.

Depending on where it hit would have long-lasting impacts on the earth. Second scenario is a major solar flare that has a geomagnetic impact and totally disrupts satellites with wide-spread, pro-longed electrical outages. In both cases there would be significant geo-political and societal impacts. The food chain and water supply in both scenarios would be significantly impacted. Some form of marshall law would probably be invoked - most likely state to state.

Given this prepper movement, not sure how much that would actually help with the two most likely scenarios above (non zombie apocalypse). I think some worthwhile things to do would be to get those lifestraw water sticks, maybe some survival seed kits, and basic outdoor survival and first aid supplies and basic weapons. That would really screw up football season.
