Has GoT re-calibrated our expectations for such things?

For decades, it was kinda accepted that when telling a heroic fantasy story, the heroes will prevail because that's what heroes do.

If your average person jumps out of an airplane without a parachute, they die. When James Bond does it, he'll figure something out on the way down.

But now GoT has gotten us to epic heroic stories in a way that, yes, characters can and do die, no matter how attached to them you are.

As consumers of this entertainment, are we now disappointed when a character doesn't die if they are in a situation where they clearly should have? Has characters with plot armor finally jumped the shark?
