Reading this Yeah, I agree with this completely.

I think I understood pretty well before reading it just that he is much more articulate in laying out the discussion.

I like his "plotters and pantsers" dichotomy and definitions. Story arc is kinda what I meant by plotters, you have to plot how to stick the landing at the end and pantsers...yeah, some people can write stuff like you or I might daydream. I might write about walking out my front door and have no idea where it's going: It's a beautiful day, carpe diem? or Something funny happened to me on the way to the grocery store or OMG people are idiots?

Tolkien in LOTR is clearly a plotter, even did a practice run w/The Hobbit. I'll suggest he did that because LOTR has a strong moral component so the arc had to move in a certain way. GRRM of course, was probably deliberately messing with you at times by doing the unexpected, sometimes shocking. So a lot of fun, and more natural characters, the likeable characters don't necessarily win, just like in real life, but where does it lead to?

Anyway, I'd almost guess that tweeter teaches literature or something, his breakdown was very clear.
