Spoilers The problem was that development was not earned. There was no
descent into madness. It was literally a switch from killing people who deserved it (slave owners, traitors, etc) to killing thousands of innocent women and children. I don't think it's annoying to complain about it at all. Almost every "good" character had executed at least one person. Dany was no different. The show begins with Ned Stark beheading a guy for abandoning his post because of the White Walkers. That guy was way more "innocent" than a lot of the people Dany killed. She was the one that was always about freeing the downtrodden and the lower class... you know the exact type of people she killed in King's Landing.
The show framed her as a heroine for 98% of the episodes and then suddenly she was Hitler and Darth Vader rolled into one. I understand what they were going for but the abruptness of it just didn't work. They either needed to make her a little more morally ambiguous in previous seasons or they needed to spend more time on her losing it at the end. Or they could have had a compelling reason for her to "snap" after the battle was won. And honestly it didn't HAVE to go that way at all. We've been told (and shown) over and over that Dany was NOT her father so they could have just as easily pushed her to the brink of losing it only to have her make a conscious decision to NOT be her father or her brother. But once they went down the path of her pointlessly burning King's Landing there was pretty much only one way her story could end.
