I'm not picking an argument, that reference was simply a pointer to that whole argument there. Even Krakauer at the time said he got a lot of flack/pushback/anger from other climbers so no surprise he might not come off well in a film he did not produce.

But, back to my post, everything you stated is part of why I'm not a big fan, my understanding is that you could pay $60k (probably a lot more now) and basically have them carry you up there. OK, surely that's an exageration, you better be some sort of fit but still some ratio of people die including highly experienced guys year in and year out, it's something like 1 out of 8 or 12 something like that. Also, tons of irretrievable litter in the form of Oxygen bottles etc It's a mess.

But it all leads to a philosophical question of "Because it's there" mentality. I suppose it's must my personal philosophy, I'm not admiring of people that climb Mt Everest, or Diana Nyad swimming to Cuba, or guys that run the Appalachian Trail in record time, Something's very off-base, maybe I'm just a "There's no there, there" guy. I am someone that has taken a step or two down that path, visited Great Basin National Park last fall and climbed 13k Wheeler peak (good hiking boots, lots of water, suntan lotion, hat sunglasses type hike) not bad for someone coming from 500 ft MD but not sure there's "more" at 14k or 20k or 29k. Kinda hard to put into words.
