I agree it is inaccurate because the ACC is also including the time

that both schools were member of (I think) the Southern Conference. It is possible it was a mistake made by whomever said it during a pre-game broadcast or during the ACC Pre-Game Show. I believe it may have been mentioned a couple times during an ESPN broadcast or show too. However, I always saw it as the ACC taking a dig at the SEC. Basically the ACC was saying to the SEC, "Even though you (SEC) may think you are the best, the ACC is the king (or best) in this streak."

I remember it being mentioned more during the pre-expansion to 12 ACC than the post expansion to 12 ACC. Although I did see it mentioned in an article when the ACC announced who would be in the 2 divisions. The only reason I remember is because that was the first time I learned that the UNC vs. UVA game is called the "South's Oldest Rivalry."
